Looking for something to do this weekend other than battling the throngs of shoppers or sitting at home watching the same tired old movies on television? Come join us for a day of Christmas cheer at the home of Saint Nick in North Pole. Christmas in Ice events scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) include:
* Kids ice carving competition 10:00am - 2:00pm.
As luck would have it, Mother Nature appears to be prepared to cooperate with us. Weather reports indicate the temps should hover around 10 above with light snow. Admission is $5.00 per day for adults and $3.00 for children under 12. Children under 5 are admitted free. A season pass is also available for $15.00 for adults and $9.00 for children. Gate hours for the Ice Park are:
Sunday - Thursday: 11:00am - 10:00pm |

Jesse,
This really sounds like a fun event and I would love to be there but there is just one problem--------that darn temp, I left my sorrels in Wisconsin when I left. ;-)
Jesse, what happened to your "Spouses selling Houses" - I loved that!
This post is terrific, and inspires me to go do my job as a moderator of Posts to Localism so I can feature it in the Group.
Don - Come on... 10 above? Heck, that's almost a heat wave. Good to see you this morning!
Margaret - It's still there... I just moved it to the sidebar above my photo's. Thank you for the feature in Posts to Localism, btw. :)
Great looking ice sculpture, this sounds like a really cool event to see. Take care.
I was freezing before you even mentioned the temperature! Does sound like a lot of fun though!
Jesse,
Put the coffee on, we're on our way. Oh wait, our sled is in the shop. Maybe next year.
I just love you guys! Wish I could be there... but only if I had a hat! Enjoy
Sounds like a cooooolllld but fun event. Brrrrrrr. Great ice sculpture! KM
Hi Jesse, Those beautiful sculptures would melt in a heartbeat where I live.
Hi Jesse: 10 degrees with light snow? Brrrr . . . and here I am complaining that our morning temperatures are in the 40s. I ran out to a home inspection yesterday without a coat and didn't realize until I got out of my car that it was 46 degrees. It was cold. See, snow puts it into perspective. :)
Lovely picture! I am cosidering the Wordless Wednesday posts too. I get some great things on my little bitty camera at times.
I hope you post some pictures...but really at 10 degrees I would have stayed home :)
It is just incredible what you can do with clear ice and light. Remember the ice structures in the Arctic, they were involving professinal artistst and it was fascinating whatching them carve the ice with axes.
Jesse, Love the new picture!! It looks like a brrrrrr good time!
When we first moved here we would laugh at people who were getting their parkas out when it was 50 degrees. Well guess what we have acclimated.
oooh...ahhh. Ice sculptures look wonderful.
What a 'cool' photo. I am not sure I would last at 10 degrees. I am freezing at 50. Ice melts here. (grin)
Jesse this is a beautiful photo. I have a question... what in the hell do you people do when mother nature does not cooperate with you? Hovering about 10 above huh? My goodness, you must have been sweltering!
Sounds like a grand event! Hope you have a great time!
Merry Christmas!
your friend in Charlottesville!
Hi Jesse...Hot chocolate please. Oh, and a foot warmer.
Kate
I LOVE ice sculptures! I bet the kiddie carving contest would be really fun to watch. I'm always amazed at what these guys can create with frozen water. :-) I'm creative...but I just did not get that ice carving gene. GREAT STUFF! GBU~
watching the ice carving on the cruises I have been on -this is my cup of tea

Really beautiful! Wish I was there.
Jesse - that is an awesome sculpture, and thank you for sharing it. Great localism post.
Wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas and happy holiday season.
What a beautiful picture! Alaska is a gorgeous place to blog about!

This is the type of event I really miss living here in Florida... It was 80 degrees Christmas day!
Great Pictures Jesse, My wife surprised me for my 50th in August with a 12 day land/sea trip to Alaska. We started in Fairbanks. What breathtaking country.
No offense, But I'll pass on the winter. I would like to see Denali and northern lights in the winter though.
Greg
It sounds like a great event. Check out my recent blog about the ice festival that we are having in our area.
I know many people that have moved from Alaska to my neck of the woods. We are cold and have a few bears but we don't miss the mosquitos.
I would have like to attend this event but my wife probably won't go back to the snows or the cold. It is cold here, especially the last couple of days but at least the suns out now. Don't get me wrong, low to mid 60's in Hawaii is cold for us! Anyone planning or coming to Hawaii soon?
